Initial Editorial Analysis Nov 1 2001
Source of Report for California Kartesz & Meacham
Initial Editorial Comments Erigeron filifolius var. filifolius only, treated in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]; author citation uncertain, (Hook.) Nutt. in Kartesz & Meacham.
Editorial Recommendation author citation to be checked [resolved]
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 2 Feb 2004 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that Nuttall published this name (as "Erigeron *filifolium", the asterisk indicating a new species) in Transactions of the American Philosophical Society sr. 2, 7:308 (1840), wherein he wrote "Diplopappus filifolius ? (Hook. Flor. Bor., Vol. II., p. 21,) but the rays are not yellowish.", indicating that he was naming and describing a new species different from Hooker's, so that his epithet filifolium cannot be considered to be based on Hooker's epithet filifolius. [Therefore, correct author citation is Erigeron filifolius Nutt., as cited above, and not Erigeron filifolius (Hook.) Nutt., as considered under Comments.]
