Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 Jun 2000 pers. comm. from Bruce G. Baldwin see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates possible addition. [Since the genus in which this taxon will be placed has not yet been decided, a tentative Current Status category reflecting its treatment in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1] is used, except in the case of minor variants and hybrids, which remain unresolved.]
Correspondence 2 18 Oct 2003 e-mail from Richard Moe see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 indicates that [the basionym of ] this name was published in Williamson, Lieut. R.S. Report of Explorations in California for Railroad Routes, to connect with the Routes near the 35th and 32nd Parallels of North Latitude. [22], (7)-43, [3], xvi, [2], 370, [2], xiii, [3], 15, [7], 14 pp. Illus. with 12 tinted lithographs in Part I...House Issue. Washington: A.O.P. Nicholson, 1856. Wagner-Camp 264 - Pacific Railroad Report, Volume V. House of Representatives, 33d Congress, 2d Session, Ex. Doc. No. 91...Part III is a Botanical Report by E. Durand & T. C. Hilgard. [According to International Plant Names Index-Index Kewensis, this combination was published by Jepson, in Man. Fl. Pl. Calif. 1024.1925, whereat Linosyris teretifolia D. & H. is cited as the basionym. According to IPNI-Index Kewensis, this name was published by Durand & Hilg. in Pacif. Rail. Rep. v. 9, evidently the same work indicated in Correspondence 2, although according to IPNI-Gray Card Index, it was published by Durieu & Hilg. (no further citation). T. C. Hilgard evidently is Theodore Charles Hilgard, 1828-1875 (Hilg. in Authors of Plant Names), whose dates overlap with all three E. Durands in Authors of Plant Names, but most extensively with Elias (Elie) Magloire Durand, 1794-1873 (Durand in Authors of Plant Names). Therefore, author citation corrected to Ericameria teretifolia (Durand & Hilg.) Jeps., from Ericameria teretifolia (Durieu & Hilg.) Jeps. previously in this Index, 20 Jan 2004.]
Correspondence 3 2 Nov 2006 e-mail from John Strother see Comment 3
Editorial Comments 3 Correspondence 3 indicates that specimens in UC/JEPS previously filed as Chrysothamnus teretifolius (Durand & Hilg.) H. M. Hall are now filed as Ericameria teretifolia (Durand & Hilg.) Jeps., reflecting circumscriptions and nomenclature used in Flora North America in a treatment authored by Lowell E. Urbatsch [Author of Chrysothamnus and EricameriaThe Jepson Manual [Ed. 2]], Loran C. Anderson, Roland P. Roberts, and Kurt M. Neubig.
