Initial Editorial Comments treated as Chrysothamnus nauseosus in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 Jun 2000 pers. comm. from Bruce G. Baldwin see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates possible addition. [Since the genus in which this taxon will be placed has not yet been decided, a tentative Current Status category reflecting its treatment in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1] is used, except in the case of minor variants and hybrids, which remain unresolved.]
Correspondence 2 2 Nov 2006 e-mail from John Strother see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 indicates that specimens in UC/JEPS previously filed as Chrysothamnus nauseosus (Pall. ex Pursh) Britton are now filed as Ericameria nauseosa (Pall.) G. L. Nesom & G. I. Baird, reflecting circumscriptions and nomenclature used in Flora North America in a treatment authored by Lowell E. Urbatsch [Author of Chrysothamnus and Ericameria in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2]], Loran C. Anderson, Roland P. Roberts, and Kurt M. Neubig.
Correspondence 3 13 Mar 2007 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 3
Editorial Comments 3 Correspondence 3 indicates that Ericameria nauseosa, published by G.L. Nesom & G.I. Baird in Phytologia 75:84 (1993), was based on Chrysocoma nauseosa, published by Pursh in Flora Americae Septentrionalis 2: 517-518. 1814 [1813], wherein Pursh attributed the description to "Pallas. mss. in Herb. Lambert". [Therefore, author citation corrected to Ericameria nauseosa (Pall.) G. L. Nesom & G. I. Baird, from Ericameria nauseosa (Pall. ex Pursh) G. L. Nesom & G. I. Baird previously in this Index, 16 Apr 2007.]
Correspondence 4 10 Mar 2014 e-mail from Kanchi Gandhi, addressing discrepancy in author citation pointed out by Michael G. Simpson in e-mail of 10 Mar 2014 see Comment 4
Editorial Comments 4 Correspondence 4 indicates that on p. 19 in the preface to Pursh's Flora Americae Septentrionalis, Pursh states that, beginning on p. 72, for the purposes of saving space, if a dash appears at the end of a description it means that he amended the description otherwise attributed to the person whose name appears immediately after the dash, so that in this case, where a dash appears before the name Pallas [the period after Pallas appears to be a mistake], it is in fact Pursh, and not Pallas, who is to be credited with the description [of the basionym, Chrysocoma nauseosa], although the name may be ascribed to Pallas. [Therefore, author citation corrected (changed back to) to Ericameria nauseosa (Pall. ex Pursh) G. L. Nesom & G. I. Baird, from Ericameria nauseosa (Pall.) G. L. Nesom & G. I. Baird previously in this Index, 11 Mar 2014.]
