Smith (UC, pers. comm. to Greenhouse, 2003) agree that there is no apparent reason to change the spelling of the first part of the compound epithet to boreali; that J. Strother (UC, pers. comm. to Greenhouse, 2003), following ICBN Art. 60.9, which allows a hyphen to separate parts of a compound epithet that could stand independently, and following the example of Athyrium austro-occidentale in Ex.17 of that article, would add a hyphen, yielding boreo-atlantica as the epithet; and that Mary Barkworth (The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1] co-author), in a 4/10/03 e-mail, provided no reason for changing the original spelling.
