Initial Editorial Analysis Nov 1 2001
Source of Report for California The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]
Initial Editorial Comments author citation uncertain, (Parry ex Engelm.) Rümpler in C. F. Forst in Gray Card Index, (Engelm. & J. M. Bigelow) Engelm. ex Rümpler in Munz Southern California Flora; (Parry ex Engelm.) Lemaire (i.e., +/- as cited) in Kartesz & Meacham
Editorial Recommendation author citation to be checked [resolved]
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 16 Dec 2004 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that Echinocereus engelmannii is based on Cereus engelmannii Parry ex Engelm. (Amer. J. Sci. Arts, ser. 2, 14:338. 1852); that Engelmann ascribed the name to "Parry in litt." but did not credit him with the Latin description; that Charles Lemaire (Lem. in Authors of Plant Names) made the combination Echinocereus engelmannii in Les Cactées. 56 (1868); so that the correct author citation is (Parry ex Engelm.) Lem. [Therefore, author citation confirmed and expanded to Echinocereus engelmannii (Parry ex Engelm.) Lem., from Echinocereus engelmannii (Engelm.) Lem. previously in this Index, 17 Dec 2004.]
