ONAGRACEAE
Initial Editorial Analysis 2 May 2011

Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 [for Epilobium angustifolium L. var. angustifolium] 9 Sep 2002 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that, according to molecular and morphological evidence as presented in Baum, D. A., K. J. Sytsma, & P. C. Hoch (Syst. Bot. 19: 363-388. 1994) and in an e-mail from Peter C. Hoch (The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1] author) to Jeff Greenhouse of 5/14/98, the section of the Epilobium including the "fireweeds" (in North America, Epilobium angustifolium and Epilobium latifolium) is very distinct from the rest of the Epilobium, and should be segregated to Chamerion. [Indicated no closer to California than WA, WY in Kartesz & Meacham].
Correspondence 2 19 Sep 2002 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 indicates that Epilobium angustifolium var. angustifolium does not occur in CA, citing Mosquin, T., Brittonia 18: 176. (1966), Intermountain Flora 3A: 230. (1997), and Iwatsuki, K., D. E. Boufford and H Ohba, Flora of Japan 2c: 241 (1999).
Correspondence 3 Treatment and author notes submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] see Comment 3
Editorial Comments 3 Correspondence 3 indicates, in a note under Chamerion angustifolium (L.) Holub subsp. circumvagum (Mosquin) Hoch, that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Chamerion angustifolium (L.) Holub subsp. angustifolium is to be treated as occurring farther north and at higher elevations [than those of Chamerion angustifolium (L.) Holub subsp. circumvagum (Mosquin) Hoch] but possibly to be expected in CA.
