Chaenactis artemisiifolia (Harv. & A. Gray) A. Gray

Information from the Index of California Plant Names (ICPN)
Initial Editorial Analysis Nov 1 2001
Source of Report for California The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 26 Jun 2007 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that Chaenactis artemisiifolia was published by A. Gray in Proceedings of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences 10: 74 (1874), based on Acarphaea artemisiifolia, published by A. Gray in Memoirs of the American Academy of Arts and Science, new series 4(1): 98-99. 1849 (Plantae Fendlerianae), wherein Gray ascribed the name to "Harv. & Gray" (Harv. & A. Gray in Authors of Plant Names). [Article 46.2 of ICBN (2000) requires acceptance of the authors as ascribed (Harv. & A. Gray in Authors of Plant Names) since A. Gray is one of the ascribed authors and the article states "...authorship of a new name or combination must always be accepted as ascribed, even when it differs from authorship of the publication, when at least one author is common to both." Therefore, author citation corrected to Chaenactis artemisiifolia (Harv. & A. Gray) A. Gray, from Chaenactis artemisiifolia (A. Gray) A. Gray previously in this Index, 26 Jun 2007.]
