Initial Editorial Analysis 31 Jan 2007
Notes on Authorship of Name | all = Authors of Plant Names except Broome not in Authors of Plant Names, although in accordance with principles in Authors of Plant Names
Notes on Publication of Name | Bull. Torrey Bot. Club, 100(6): 353 (1974)
Source of Report for California | 1999 Federal Register, as cited in Kartesz & Meacham
Initial Editorial Comments | according to The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1], "CA (not NV) pls that have been considered C. n. [n. probably = namophilum, but then spelling it out after "var." makes it ambiguous] var. namophilum...are apparently all C. exaltatum"
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 | $ 8 Feb 2002, from Margriet Wetherwax see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 | Correspondence 1 indicates that, according to a letter from Mark Skinner, the entry for Centaurium namophilum in California Native Plant Society Inventory (ed. 5, 1994) is based on a misidentification of Centaurium exaltatum. [The report cited by Kartesz & Meacham (Federal Register, 1999) remains unaddressed, so retention of a Current Status of tentative 8 is appropriate.]
Correspondence 2 | 25 Jan 2005 e-mail from Bob Allen see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 | Correspondence 2 indicates that Centaurium (Gentianaceae) has been split up and the California species placed in Zeltnera, citing Mansion, G. 2004. A new classification of the polyphyletic genus Centaurium Hill (Chironiidae-Gentianaceae): description of the New World endemic Zeltnera, and reinstatement of Gyrandra Griseb. and Schenkia Griseb. Taxon 53: 719-740. [Mansion treats this taxon as Zeltnera namophila (Reveal, Broome, & Beatley) Mansion, but does not indicate it for California (he treats it as endemic to Nye Co., NV), although he does include it in the "Californian group"; James S. Pringle, The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] author, is recognizing Zeltnera, and evidently will exclude this taxon for CA.]
Correspondence 3 | Treatment and author notes submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] by James S. Pringle see Comment 3
Editorial Comments 3 | Correspondence 3 indicates that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Centaurium namophilum Reveal, Broome, & Beatley is to be treated as a synonym of Zeltnera namophila, and that the taxon occurs as a native in CA, in SNE and DMoj.
