Carex pellita Muhl. ex Willd.

Information from the Index of California Plant Names (ICPN)
Current Jepson Flora Project Misapplied Names Carex lanuginosa Michx.; Carex lasiocarpa var. lanuginosa (Michx.) Kük. [in TJDM, Carex lasiocarpa var. lanuginosa Kük listed as misapplied, evidently with incorrect author citation.]
Initial Editorial Analysis 21 Jun 2010
Source of Report for California Munz, P.A. in collaboration with D. D. Keck. 1968, as cited in Kartesz & Meacham
Initial Editorial Comments in no way mentioned in Munz (despite Kartesz & Meacham citation), Munz Supplement (despite Kartesz & Meacham citation), The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]; author citation corrected from Muhl ex Willd. (no period after Muhl) in Kartesz & Meacham; listed as synonym of Carex lanuginosa in Abrams & Ferris, Illustrated Flora of the Pacific States (I:340); author citation uncertain, Muhl. in Willd. in AF
Editorial Recommendation author citation to be checked [resolved]
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 13 May 2003 e-mail from Dick Moe see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that Carex pellita Muhl. ex Willd. is accepted in TJDM, with Carex lanuginosa [by which the taxon was known in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]] as a misapplied name. [Carex lanuginosa Michx., Carex lasiocarpa var. lanuginosa Kük. added here as misapplied names 15 May 2003.]
Correspondence 2 30 Jul 2003 e-mail from Dan Post see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 indicates that, in Flora North America, Carex lanuginosa listed as a synonym of Carex lasiocarpa, which, if adopted, would mean that Carex pellita would be an addition to, rather than a correction of, the treatment in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1] (in Flora North America, both Carex pellita and Carex lasiocarpa indicated forCA).
Correspondence 3 27 Jul 2004 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 3
Editorial Comments 3 Correspondence 3 indicates that Carex pellita was published by Willdenow (Willd. in Authors of Plant Names) in Species Plantarum, ed. 4, 4(1):302 (1805), and that in the protologue Willdenow ascribes the name to "Mühlenb. in litt." [hence, "Muhl. ex] but signs the diagnosis with his initial "W." [hence, "Muhl. ex Willd.], so that the correct author citation is Carex pellita Muhl. ex Willd., as previously indicated in this Index.
Correspondence 4 Treatment and author notes submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] by Peter Zika, Andrew Hipp, & Joy Mastrogiuseppe see Comment 4
Editorial Comments 4 Correspondence 4 indicates that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Carex lanuginosa Michx. is to be treated as a name that in California has been misapplied to plants belonging instead to Carex pellita Muhl. ex Willd.
