Kearney, Jr. (Kearney in Authors of Plant Names) in Britton & Kearney, Transactions of the New York Academy of Sciences 14(3):37 (1895); that Kearney didn't explicitly include the species when he published the trinomial as a var. nov. based on Oenothera contorta var. pubens (S. Watson) Coville (Contributions from the United States National Herbarium 4:104. 1893), although in associating the specific epithet with the genus Camissonia and indirectly referring to the basionym Oenothera contorta,through the Coville publication, Kearney successfully validated the species name Camissonia contorta; and that the basionym Oenothera contorta was published in Hooker, Flora Boreali-Americana 1:214 (1833), in which the section on Oenothera was authored by Lehmann, who ascribed the name and description to "Douglas, MSS.", so that the correct author citation for the basionym of Camissonia contorta is Oenothera contorta Douglas. [Therefore, author citation corrected to Camissonia contorta (Douglas) Kearney, from Camissonia contorta (Douglas) P. H. Raven previously in this Index, 11 Sep 2008.] | |||||
