Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 30 Oct 2004 e-mail from Richard Moe see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that Boerhavia coulteri var. palmeri is among names returned in a search of Flora North America for taxa reported for California currently not found in this Index. [From Flora North America 4: 27: "Boerhavia coulteri var. palmeri is a desert taxon primarily from south of the Mogollon Rim; its occurrence in southern New Mexico and western Texas, and on the Channel Islands, is perhaps the result of introductions. It seems very closely related to B. torreyana, distinguished by the less rugose ribs and narrower, nonpapillate sulci. The two may intergrade in southeastern Arizona. For decades var. palmeri has been included without taxonomic recognition within a broadly constructed B. coulteri."]
Correspondence 2 Treatment submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] by Andrew G. Murdock see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 indicates that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Boerhavia coulteri (Hook.f.) S. Watson var. palmeri (S.Watson) Spellenb. is to be recognized for California as a native, with an indication that in the Channel Islands it is possible introduced.
