Initial Editorial Analysis 5 Jan 2007
Source of Report for California Kartesz & Meacham
Initial Editorial Comments "if the dubious subspp. are recognized, California pls...are subsp. davisii" according to The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 Treatment and author notes submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] by Thomas J. Rosatti see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Asclepias cryptoceras S. Watson subsp. cryptoceras and Asclepias cryptoceras S. Watson subsp. davisii (Woodson) Woodson are not to be recognized: Asclepias cryptoceras S. Watson subsp. davisii (Woodson) Woodson (hoods +- exceeded by anther head) and Asclepias cryptoceras S. Watson subsp. cryptoceras (hoods gen +- exceeding anther head) have been recognized elsewhere, and although the latter has been reported for SNE (Mono Co.) and was listed in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1] as UNCOMMON, its occurrence in California has not been documented and morphological intergradation between the two, reportedly extensive from Mono Co. to sw NV (Intermountain Flora 4:48), precludes taxonomic recognition of these subspp. here anyhow.
