Information from the Index of California Plant Names (ICPN)
Initial Editorial Analysis Nov 1 2001
Source of Report for California Kartesz & Meacham
Initial Editorial Comments Alnus viridis subsp. sinuata, only, treated in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]; author citation uncertain, Alnus viridis (Vill.) Lam. & DC. in Kartesz & Meacham, Alnus viridis (Chaix) DC. in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]
Editorial Recommendation author citation to be checked [resolved]
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 9 Feb 2007 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that, according to H.M. Burdet in Candollea 36:400--404 (1981) [Greenhouse has not seen all the pertinent literature himself], Alnus viridis was published by Lamarck and A.P. deCandolle (Lam. & DC. in Authors of Plant Names) in Flore Française, ed. 3 3:304 (1805), with the basionym Betula viridis, published by Chaix (=Authors of Plant Names) in Plantae Vapincenses 70 (1785). [Therefore, author citation corrected to Alnus viridis (Chaix) Lam. & DC., from Alnus viridis (Chaix) DC. previously in this Index, 9 Feb 2007.]
