Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 Treatment and author notes submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] by Dale W. McNeal see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Aloe maculata All. is to be recognized and treated as naturalized in CA, with Aloe saponaria (Aiton) Haw. listed as syn, and with no further explanation. [According to notes by Jeff Greenhouse in the ms for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2], Aloe saponaria (Aiton) Haw. is probably illegitimate and superfluous because Haworth included the name Aloe obscura Mill. (1768) as a synonym, which would make obscura (and not, evidently, maculata) the correct epithet at sp. rank.]
