Current Jepson Flora Project Misapplied Names Cestrum fasciculatum (Schltdl.) Miers

Source of Report for California Correspondence 1
Editorial Recommendation author citation to be checked
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 Treatment and author notes submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] by Michael Nee see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Cestrum fasciculatum (Schltdl.) Miers is to be treated as a name that has been misapplied to plants belonging instead to Cestrum elegans, which is to be treated as a waif (garden escape) in CA. [According to Jeff Greenhouse, author citation uncertain, in that it is Cestrum elegans (Brongn. ex Neumann) Schltdl. according to PLANTS and International Plant Names Index, but Cestrum elegans (Brongn.) Schltdl. in TROPICOS, and necessary references not available at UC Berkeley. When asked, Nee indicated the correct citation is Cestrum elegans (Brongn.) Schltdl., without giving reasons, although he did say he researched the matter extensively 3 decades ago for "Veracruz", so that possibly an explanation exists in Flora de Veracruz.]
