Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 25 Jan 2005 e-mail from Bob Allen see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that Centaurium (Gentianaceae) has been split up and the California species placed in Zeltnera, citing Mansion, G. 2004. A new classification of the polyphyletic genus Centaurium Hill (Chironiidae-Gentianaceae): description of the New World endemic Zeltnera, and reinstatement of Gyrandra Griseb. and Schenkia Griseb. Taxon 53: 719-740. [Mansion treats this taxon as Zeltnera arizonica (A. Gray) Mansion, and does not indicate it for CA; although James S. Pringle, The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] author, is recognizing Zeltnera, it is not yet certain if he will treat this taxon as a distinct species or include it in another, or if he will include it for CA.]
Correspondence 2 Treatment and author notes submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] by James S. Pringle see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 indicates that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Centaurium arizonicum (A. Gray) A. Heller is to be treated as Zeltnera arizonica (A. Gray) G. Mans., and that the taxon, although at one time ranging barely into California along the Colorado River, has not been collected more recently than +- 1955. [In addition, inasmuch as there are no records in the Consortium of California Herbaria Database, and since Mansion did not indicate this taxon for California in that revision, it seems most appropriate to treat this as Jepson Flora Project-6 at this time.]
