Gray) Brouillet is superfluous in that Hosackia tomentosa Hook. & Arn. (1832), which was listed in synonymy, is earlier than Hosackia heermanii (1855) and therefore has priority over that name, so that the epithet "tomentosa" should have been used, as Govaerts did in publishing Acmispon tomentosus (Hook. & Arn.) Govaerts, as well as therefore Acmispon tomentosus (Hook. & Arn.) Govaerts var. tomentosus for the superfluous name Acmispon heermannii (Durand & Hilg.) Brouillet var. orbicularis (A.
