Editorial Comments 1 In publishing Solanum xanti, A. Gray (Proc. Amer. Acad. Arts 11: 90. 1876) stated (p. 91) that he named the species "in honor of L. I. Xantus, one of the earlier collectors of the species.", and in addition he spelled the epithet "xanti". According to Art. 60C.2. of the ICBN (Melbourne Code, 2012), "Personal names already in Greek or Latin, or possessing a well-established latinized form, should be given their appropriate Latin genitive to form new substantival epithets (e.g. ... augusti from Augustus ... )", so that the spelling of the epithet in this case would be "xanti". [Therefore, spelling of epithet correct as indicated in this Index.]
