Information from the Index of California Plant Names (ICPN)
Current Jepson Flora Project Synonyms Lupinus sylvestris Drew
Initial Editorial Analysis Nov 1 2001
Source of Report for California The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]
Initial Editorial Comments author citation uncertain, Dougl. in Kartesz & Meacham; Dougl. ex Hook. in HCOT, Rosatti notes, so probably correct as cited
Editorial Recommendation author citation to be checked [resolved]
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 1 Mar 2007 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that there are references to two 1832 publications as sources of this name: George Don (G. Don in Authors of Plant Names), A General History of the Dichlamydeous Plants 2:366 (Oct. 1832) and W.J. Hooker (Hook. in Authors of Plant Names), Flora Boreali-Americana 1(4):165 (1832). Correspondence 1 also indicates that Greenhouse has found no reference that would confirm which of these was published first, but that the consensus is that Hooker's was first, and that Hooker indicated that the name and description were from a Douglas manuscript. [Therefore, author citation corrected to Lupinus albicaulis Dougl., from Lupinus albicaulis Hook. previously in this Index, 2 Mar 2007.]
