Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 27 Jul 2004 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that the author citation is to be corrected to reflect the fact that one of the people involved is Theodor Holm (T. Holm in Authors of Plant Names), author of the basionym, Carex dives (American Journal of Science 167:312, f. 8--9. 1904). [Author citation corrected to Carex aquatilis Wahlenb. var. dives (T. Holm) Kük., from Carex aquatilis Wahlenb. var. dives (Holm) Kük. previously in this Index, 20 Aug 2004.]
Correspondence 2 [for Carex stevenii (Holm) Kalela] 3 Feb 2012 e-mail from Bruce Baldwin, including forwarded e-mails from Peter Zika, author of Carex for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2], and Kanchi Gandhi see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 indicates that, according to Gandhi, the author of Carex alpina var. stevenii, basionym for Carex stevenii, is Herman Theodor Holm (1854-1932; Holm in Authors of Plant Names), and not Theodor Holm (1880-1943; T. Holm in Authors of Plant Names), and that Herman Theodor Holm used to cited his name "Theo. Holm", which probably is the source of the confusion in this case. [Therefore, author citation corrected to Carex stevenii (Holm) Kalela, from Carex stevenii (T. Holm) Kalela previously in this Index, 3 Feb 2012.]
Correspondence 3 10 Feb 2012 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 3
Editorial Comments 3 Correspondence 3 indicates that just as Herman Theodor Holm (1854-1932; Holm in Authors of Plant Names), and not Theodor Holm (1880-1943; T. Holm in Authors of Plant Names), is the correct author citation Carex stevenii (Holm) Kalela, so too is it the correct author citation for six other epithets in Carex in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] that were published by "Theo Holm" in four articles in American Journal of Science from 1902 to 1904, including the basionym for Carex aquatilis var. dives. [Therefore, author citation corrected (back) to Carex aquatilis Wahlenb. var. dives (Holm) Kük., from Carex aquatilis Wahlenb. var. dives (T. Holm) Kük. previously in this Index, 22 Feb 2012.]
