Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Symphytum asperum Lepech. is to be treated as a name that has been misapplied in California to pls belonging instead to Symphytum X uplandicum Nyman, with the note "A stable, though variable, vigorous hybrid of _Symphytum asperum_ Lepech. and _Symphytum officinale_ (see CalPhoto images from NCo). In US historically confused with the taller, blue-fld _Symphytum asperum_, which appears to be rare in N.Am.".
