Information from the Index of California Plant Names (ICPN)
Current Jepson Flora Project Synonyms Stellaria media (L.) Vill. subsp. neglecta (Weihe) Gremli
Initial Editorial Analysis 20 Jan 2006
Source of Report for California Flora North America (added manually by Rosatti)
Initial Editorial Comments indicated as introduced in California in Flora North America treatment by John K. Morton, wherein it is also stated, "Formerly, Stellaria neglecta was rare in North America, but during the last ten to 15 years it has spread rapidly and become weedy. It is very like larger forms of S. media (see note under that species), but usually differs in having larger flowers, sepals, and seeds; having a larger number of stamens; and having seeds with acute conic tubercles. Flowers are self-compatible but usually are pollinated by flies.". The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] treatment by Ron Hartman, Rich Rabeler.
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 Treatment submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] by Ron Hartman, Rich Rabeler see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Stellaria neglecta Weihe is to be treated as naturalized in CA, with Stellaria media (L.) Vill. subsp. neglecta (Weihe) Murbeck listed as synonym [Stellaria media (L.) Vill. subsp. neglecta not in International Plant Names Index on 31 May 2007; the only Murbeck in Authors of Plant Names is Svante Samuel (1859-1946; = Murb. in Authors of Plant Names).]
Correspondence 2 Treatment and author notes submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] by Ron Hartman, Rich Rabeler see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 indicates that the correct author citations are Stellaria neglecta Weihe and Stellaria media subsp. neglecta (Weihe) Gremli, based on the fact that Gremli (in Excursionsfl. Schweiz ed. 2 .123. 1874) was the first to make the comb. nov., and that publication by Murbeck (in Bot. Not. 1899: 198. 1899) was later, and his name an isonym.
