Notes on Authorship of Name both = Authors of Plant Names
Source of Report for California The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]
Initial Editorial Comments author citation uncertain, L'Hér. ex Aiton in Kartesz & Meacham
Editorial Recommendation author citation to be checked [resolved]
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 15 Sep 2008 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that Oenothera rosea was published by William Aiton (Aiton in Authors of Plant Names) in Hortus Kewensis 2:3 (1789), and that the name is ascribed to "L'Herit. stirp. nov. tom. 2. tab. 6.", although web sources and TL-2 indicate that the second volume of L'Héritier's (L'Hér in Authors of Plant Names) work (Stirpes, novae, aut minus cognitae) was never published. [Therefore, author citation corrected to Oenothera rosea L'Hér ex Aiton, from Oenothera rosea L'Hér previously in this Index, 15 Sep 2008.]
Correspondence 2 Treatment and author notes submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] by Warren L. Wagner see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 indicates, in a note under the species, that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Oenothera rosea L'Hér ex Aiton is to be treated as a waif, doubtfully naturalized, with 2 records from SCo but others from cultivated plants.
