Correspondence 1 | 12 Aug 2008 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 | Correspondence 1 indicates: that Lotus scoparius was published by Ottley in University of California Publications in Botany 10(3):227--229 (1923), based on Hosackia scoparia published in Torrey & Gray, A Flora of North America 1(2):325 (1838); that Torrey & Gray (Torr. & A. Gray in Authors of Plant Names) appear to have ascribed the name Hosackia scoparia to "Nutt." and to have quoted a Nuttall description, except that they indicated that Nuttall applied his description to Drepanolobus scoparius and not Hosackia scoparia, so it seems uncertain and a matter of opinion as to whether the apparent ascription to Nuttall is acceptable, since there is an implication that Torrey & Gray ascribed only the name Drepanolobus scoparius to Nuttall; and that taking the view that it was not a true ascription of the name Hosackia scoparia to Nuttall, the correct citation for Lotus scoparius would be (Torr. & A. Gray) Ottley, a view now shared by Kanchi Gandhi and Luc Brouillet (The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] author). [Therefore, author citation corrected to Lotus scoparius (Torr. & A. Gray) Ottley, from Lotus scoparius (Nutt.) Ottley previously in this Index, 11 Sep 2008.]
Correspondence 2 | Treatment and author notes submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] by Luc Brouillet see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 | Correspondence 2 indicates that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Lotus scoparius (Torr. & A. Gray) Ottley is to be treated as a synonym of Acmispon glaber (Vogel) Brouillet.
