Editorial Recommendation author citation to be checked [resolved]
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 8 Dec 2005 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates: that the genus Geraea and the species Geraea canescens were published simultaneously in Proceedings of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences 1:48--49. 1846 (1847), therein included as part of a communication from Professor Gray (A. Gray in Authors of Plant Names); that Gray ascribed the genus to "Torr. & Gray, Fl. N. Amer. ined.", although he left the species name without [explicit] ascription; that Article 46.2 of ICBN (2000) requires acceptance of the authors as ascribed (Torr. & A. Gray in Authors of Plant Names) since it states "...authorship of a new name or combination must always be accepted as ascribed [Torr. & A. Gray], even when it differs from authorship of the publication [A. Gray], when at least one author [A. Gray] is common to both."; and that authorship of the species, by extension, [in this case] would be the same as that of the genus. [Therefore, author citation corrected to Geraea canescens Torr. & A. Gray, from Geraea canescens A. Gray previously in this Index, 14 Dec 2005.]
