(1779)" and "C. Bellardi All. (1785)" as synonyms, and since "Carex Vill. (1779)" refers to Carex myosuroides Vill. (Prospectus de l'Histoire des Plantes de Dauphiné 17-18. 1779), the specific epithet "myosuroides" predates "bellardii" and therefore has priority when the two names are considered conspecific [as they are to be for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] according to Ball], so that Kobresia myosuroides is the correct name, with Kobresia bellardii (All.) K. Koch as a synonym. According to Ball, there has been some debate as to whether the 1779 publication is valid because of the brevity of the description, but most workers now are of the opinion that it was.] | |||||
