Recognized as occurring in California by Flora North America author - See Aedo, C. 2000 Anales jard. Bot. Madrid 58(1):39-82. Marin Co., Howell s.n. Olema 38°40'N, 122°47'W, 7 Jun 1936. b | Hrusa et al., Madrono 49(2)61-98. 2002: DIST: CCo: Hrusa et al. Current Status: No current information: DOC: Marin Co.: Aedo (2000); Olema. June 7, 1936, Howell s.n. (NY): NOTES: This species, another relative of G. carolinianum L., otherwise occurs in east Texas and Louisiana (and the Azores). According to Aedo (2000), "Its presence in California (not previously recorded) probably constitutes a[n] occasional introduction".
Initial Editorial Comments | Source indicates that, citing Carlos Aedo (00), Flora North America author, the presence of Geranium texanum "...in California (not previously reported) probably constitutes an occasional introduction."; indicated no nearer to California than TX in Kartesz & Meacham. [Whether or not the occasional introductions include naturalization evidently not addressed. In lieu of consideration by The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1] author, a Current Status of tentative 2 is appropriate (22 Mar 2002).]; according to Source b, status uncertain (19 Feb 2003)

Editorial Comments 1 | According to Margriet Wetherwax, Howell collected Geranium texanum in Olema in 1936, and did not mention this species when he wrote the Marin Co. Flora in 1949; also, RSA247822, under this species in SMASCH, was collected by R. F. Thorne in 1973 from the Mojave Desert, but this actually belongs to Erodium texanum and was entered into the database as Geranium texanum by mistake.
