Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 8 May 2008 e-mail from David J. Keil see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that, according to David J. Keil (author of key to families in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1], The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2]), Festuca arundinacea and Festuca pratensis are treated as Schedonorus arundinaceus (Schreb.) Dumort and Schedonorus pratensis (Huds.) P. Beauv. in Flora North America 24: 445--448, and there is good evidence that Schedonorus is closer to Lolium than to Festuca.
Correspondence 2 15 May 2009 e-mail from Mary Barkworth see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 indicates that Schedonorus arundinaceus (Schreb.) Dumort., Obser. Gramin. Belg.: 106, 1824 (Festuca arundinacea Schreb., Spic. Fl. Lips.: 57. 1771) is conserved, against Schedonorus arundinaceus Roem. & Schult., Syst. Veg. 2: 700. 1817 ('Schenodorus').
Correspondence 3 16 May 2009 e-mail from Kanchi Gandhi see Comment 3
Editorial Comments 3 Correspondence 3 indicates that Festuca arundinacea Schreb. was published July-October 1771, and that Poa phoenix Scop. was published 1771, with no more precise information than that, prompting Gandhi to suggest that Festuca arundinacea Schreb. be conserved over Poa phoenix, as a way to help avoid ambiguity. [Therefore, correct name for California pls remains uncertain, 18 May 2009].
Correspondence 4 6 Aug 2012 e-mail from Richard Moe see Comment 4
Editorial Comments 4 Correspondence 4 indicates that Festuca arundinacea Schreb. is treated as naturalized in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2], so that "tentative" should be removed from Current Status.
