Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 15 Jan 2004 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that specimens collected by David Gowen from SnFrB (Lime Ridge, Contra Costa Co., and Arroyo Bayo, Santa Clara Co.) have been studied by Dieter Wilken, who tentatively assigned them to Eriastrum brandegeeae (indicated in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1] only farther north, in n&c NCoRI) but stated (in a 3 Nov 2003 e-mail toBarbara Ertter) that "the Gowen specimens, among others, may represent a previously undescribed taxon". Correspondence 1 also indicates that UC908363, also from the vicinity of Arroyo Bayo, is filed as Eriastrum brandegeeae based on the most recent annotation but bears annotations with three other epithets attesting to its problematic identification as well. [Therefore, the specimens cited may represent one or more undescribed taxa.]
Correspondence 2 1 Dec 2004 e-mail from Misa Ward see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence appended verbatim is pertinent to The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] account: "Identity of CCA occurrence needs confirmation. Threatened by grazing, vehicles, recreation, and development. Does not include E. tracyi. See Madroño 8(3):88-89 (1945) for original description."
