Jepson Flora Project: Jepson Interchange for California Floristics
Astragalus tegetarioides M. E. Jones
FABACEAE
Initial Editorial Analysis 12 Oct 2009
Source of Report for California Rosatti SMASCH notes: Taxon evidently not treated in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]
Initial Editorial Comments one record in SMASCH, UC1483838 (G. Schoolcraft 307, 14 Aug 1980, Ash Valley, Lassen Co.); indicated as rare in, endemic to OR in Kartesz & Meacham; indicated only for OR in Abrams & Ferris, Illustrated Flora of the Pacific States; in no way mentioned in Munz, Munz Supplement, The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 17 Oct 2003 e-mail from Aaron Liston see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that UC1483838, the specimen cited in Comments as allegedly belonging to Astragalus tegetarioides M. E. Jones, is almost certainly Astragalus anxius (endemic to Ash Valley, Lassen Co.), based on the locality; also noted is publication of a new combination for that taxon, Astragalus tegetarioides var. anxius (Meinke & Kaye) S. L.Welsh Great Basin Naturalist 58: 51. 1998. [Astragalus tegetarioides M. E. Jones would be added to accommodate Astragalus tegetarioides M. E. Jones var. anxius (Meinke & Kaye) S. L.Welsh, if the latter were recognized.]
Correspondence 2 18 Oct 2003 e-mail from Richard Moe [in reference to Correspondence 1] see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 indicates that UC1483838 was collected within 1 mi of the type locality of Astragalus anxius.
Correspondence 3 Treatment and author notes submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] by Martin F. Wojciechowski see Comment 3
Editorial Comments 3 Correspondence 3 indicates that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Astragalus tegetarioides M. E. Jones var. anxius (Meinke & Kaye) S. L.Welsh is to be treated as a synonym of Astragalus anxius Meinke & Kaye, and that Astragalus tegetarioides M. E. Jones does occur in CA, in part because the one accession on which this entry was based, UC1483838, almost certainly belongs instead to Astragalus anxius Meinke & Kaye.
