Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 reiterates that the correct author citation is Astragalus crotalariae (Benth.) Torr., in that: regardless of what Torrey was thinking about, what he was looking at, and what he had illustrated, he nevertheless validly, though possibly inadvertently, published the comb. nov. Astragalus crotolariae, based on Phaca crotolariae Benth; that comments by Gray just complicate and confuse the issue and these simple facts; that Gray concluded that the plant Torrey was looking at and had illustrated was a new species which he, Gray, named Astragalus oocarpus A. Gray; and that Torrey published a new combination (Astragalus crotolariae) but misapplied it to what was later named Astragalus oocarpus by Gray.
