| Editorial Comments 1 | Correspondence 1 indicates that Arctostaphylos chaloneorum was described by Roof in 1978 from Pinnacles National Monument; that in 1979, Roof reduced the species to a subspecies of Arctostaphylos pungens, as Arctostaphylos pungens subsp. chaloneorum (Roof) Roof; that in the specimen database at UC/JEPS, a type specimen of Arctostaphylos chaloneorum is identified (anonymously) as Arctostaphylos pungens; and that Philip Wells, who wrote the account of Arctostaphylos in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1], published a book on California Manzanitas in 2000, in which he treats Arctostaphylos chaloneorum as a synonym of Arctostaphylos pungens. [Therefore, it seems justified to treat Arctostaphylos chaloneorum as a synonym of Arctostaphylos pungens, under the authority of Philip V.
