Variant Spelling Arabis macdonaldiana
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 1 Dec 2004 e-mail from Misa Ward see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence appended verbatim is pertinent to The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] account: "Potentially threatened by mining. Endangered in OR, where plant needs taxonomic study. Includes A. serpentinicola. See Rhodora 43(511):350 (1941) for taxonomic treatment, and Contributions from the Gray Herbarium 204:149-154 (1973) for taxonomic information."
Correspondence 2 1 Nov 2011 e-mail from Richard Moe see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 indicates, without explanation, that the epithet is spelled "mcdonaldiana", not "macdonaldiana", as it was spelled in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]. [According to International Plant Names Index-Gray Card Index, it is spelled "mcdonaldiana". Therefore, spelling of epithet corrected to Arabis mcdonaldiana Eastw., from Arabis macdonaldiana Eastw. previously in this Index, 1 Nov 2011.]
Correspondence 3 9 Jun 2014 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 3
Editorial Comments 3 Correspondence 3 indicates that Alice Eastwood (Eastw. in Authors of Plant Names) published Arabis mcdonaldiana in Bulletin of the Torrey Botanical Club 30:488--490 (1903), stating "It is named in honor of Captain James M. McDonald, to whom botanists of the Pacific coast are indebted for his generosity in publishing Greene's West American Oaks", and that consultation of Greene's work, Illustrations of West American Oaks (1889), confirms the spelling as McDonald. [Therefore, spelling of epithet correct as indicated in this Index, 9 Jun 2014.]
