Information from the Index of California Plant Names (ICPN)
Current Jepson Flora Project Synonyms Gnaphalium luteoalbum L.; Gnaphalium luteo-album, orth. var.
Initial Editorial Analysis 2 Feb 2011
Notes on Authorship of Name all = Authors of Plant Names
Notes on Publication of Name J. Linn. Soc., Bot. 82: 206. 1981
Source of Report for California Kartesz & Meacham
Initial Editorial Comments treated as Gnaphalium luteo-album L. in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]; spelling of epithet "luteoalbum" in Kartesz & Meacham, possibly in accordance with Art. 60.9, ICBN; original spelling in protologue should be retained unless to do so would not be in accordance with ICBN; original spelling of epithet in protologue to be checked.
Variant Spelling Pseudognaphalium luteo-album
Editorial Recommendation spelling of epithet to be checked [resolved]
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 2 Jul 2007 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that Guy Nesom (The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] and Flora North America author) as well as TROPICOS and PLANTS omit the hyphen for Pseudognaphalium luteoalbum (it is both ways in International Plant Names Index), and that although the protologues for Pseudognaphalium luteoalbum (Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society 82(3): 206. 1981) and Gnaphalium luteoalbum (Species Plantarum 2: 851. 1753) both include the hyphen, it seems [to Greenhouse] that the "luteo" modifies "album" and would not stand independently. [Also, the epithet "luteoalbum" seems more like the examples given in Ex. 16. (hyphen to be omitted) than those under Ex. 17 (hyphen to be maintained) under Art. 60.9 in ICPN (St. Louis Code, 2000), so that spelling of epithet maintained as is (i.e., without hyphen) in this Index, 13 Jul 2007.]
