Michael (assistant postmaster in Yosemite, and husband of the collector, "A new species of Allium discovered in Yosemite. Yosemite Nature Notes 14:97-98.), the collections of this specimen and other type material were made in ...early June 1922, Mrs. Michael and I were out for one of our weekly rambles... In this particular instance, Michael's narrative specifically states "...another specimen was put in a riker mount for display in the Yosemite Museum. Further evidence of the miraculous strength of the onion came to our attention the following spring when it was noted that the specimen that been in the riker mount for six months was beginning to send up fresh green shoots." Accordingly, this specimen is possibly the referenced 'Riker Mount" material, and as such the date of 5/12/1923 is potentially an ancillary date, and hence this specimen rightly might be considered type material
