The Biosystematists has been an important forum for
discussion among scientists for many years. A record of its activities
would be of great value to historians of science as well as to the members themselves.
Michael Ghiselin of the California Academy of Sciences has volunteered to help
gather and organize materials and to see to it that they are properly cared
for and organized. The Academy's new Archivist, Michele Wellck, has enthusiastically
agreed to bring her professional skills to bear on this project. We are therefore
requesting donations of materials that are relevant to the history of the group.
Such materials would obviously include announcements of meetings, membership
lists and the like (which we will reproduce as documents here, see below), but
we might also be able to find photographs, letters and other things of interest.
Materials may be sent either to Michael Ghiselin (mghiselin@casmail.calacademy.org),
Department of Invertebrate Zoology, or directly to Michele Wellck (mwellck@calacademy.org),
Library, at the California Academy of Sciences, Golden Gate Park, San Francisco,
CA 94118-4599. In either case, please make sure that the material is readily
identified as being for the Biosystematists Archives.
