   Plants erect in glossy green to light green tufts, to 2 cm high. Leaves distantly inserted, keeled along costa, laterally twisted when dry but erect spreading when moist, lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate with acute apices, to 1 mm long, about 2.5–3.5: 1, not plicate. Median lamina' cells elongate-hexagonal to almost linear with thin walls (lumen: wall ratio more than 10: 1) 7–10: 1, smooth, not pitted, to 18 gm wide. Basal and alar cells broader and relatively shorter, more pellucid than median cells. Cells near leaf apex somewhat shorter elliptic than median cells, 4–6: 1, with scattered cells somewhat distally prorate. Margins not decurrent nearly to base of next lower leaf, plane throughout, minutely serrulate with right-angled teeth. Limbidium absent, unistratose throughout. Costa filling 1/5–1/8 of leaf base, little tapering above, green throughout, ending in the acute but not acuminate leaf apex. Costa cross-section almost homogeneous but with scattered substereid cells. Axillary hairs to 5 cells long, to 75 µm, with 2 basal brown cells and 3 short rectangular and thin walled, lightly papillose distal cells. Rhizoids to 15 µm wide at insertion, papillose, brown to pale brown, sparingly branched, surrounding an isodiametric macronematal area to 100 µm wide. Stem cross-section round, with an inconspicuous central strand, with the hyaline and leptodermous inner corticals abruptly transitting to a single layer of only moderately pachydermous, red brown outer cortical cells, without a hyaloderm. Gemmae axillary, several per node, obovate to oblong without obvious stalks, to 500 µm long, brown to red-brown at maturity, juvenile leaves erect, several cells long and wide.

   Dioicous. Perichaetial leaves not differentiated. Seta brown to red-brown, smooth, erect but geniculate distally, to 30 mm long. Urn to 1.5 mm long, short-cylindric, 2–2.5: 1, inclined to pendent, neither sulcate nor strumose. Operculum short conic to almost dome-shaped. Annulus revoluble, of 2–3 rows of very thick-walled cells. Exothecial cells at capsule mouth to 12 µm broad, transversely elongate in one or two rows. Exothecial cells at middle of urn quadrate to rectangular, with sinuose lateral walls and oblique transverse walls, 1–2: 1, to 25 µm broad, not in regular rows, evenly thick walled with lumen: wall ratio 4–8: 1. Stomates phaneroporous, restricted to neck of capsule, raised on short pustules, somewhat longer than broad. Exostome yellow-brown, to 250 µm long, inconspicuously shouldered, very inconspicuously horizontally striate below but coarsely papillose above with dorsal lamellae low. Endostome with basal membrane constituting about 1/2 of total length. Segments smooth, about as long as exostome, broadly perforated along center line and lightly keeled. Cilia 1–2, nodulose. Calyptra cucullate, mostly shed before capsule maturity. Spores to 20 µm, finely papillose.
