Catalog Notes: References for Hedwigia ciliata in California are common prior to the revision of the North American material (Buck and Norris 1996). Hedwigia ciliata is actually north and east of the state and should be deleted as a component of the state bryoflora. Hedwigia detonsa is widespread and generally inland in distribution, whereas Hedwigia stellata is generally more coastal.
