Fontinalis hypnoides

No Description.

Welch (1960) treats Fontinalis duriae and F. hypnoides as separate species, while Lawton (1971) treats them as separate varieties. This distinction is disputed by Crum & Anderson (1981); and I agree with the latter conclusion. I have on several occasions found drying ponds in northern California with the plants in the more centrally located, presumably wetter sites having the broad and flaccid leaves of F. duriae while the peripheral sites contained plants assignable to F. hypnoides.
