Cumathamnion Wynne & Daniels 1966
Blades numerous, forming from sympodially developed axes, polystromatic, with prominent midribs and lateral veins; midrib with internal rhizoidal filaments; secondary blades produced along midrib; intercalary divisions present in cell rows of second order. Tetrasporangia in sori on unspecialized blades, tetrahedrally divided. Spermatangia in sori on both surfaces of blade. Procarps on specialized fertile blades, developed from abaxial pericentral cell. Cystocarps 1 per blade, 500-800 µm diam., with beaked pericarp; carposporangia in chains.

Thalli pendant in clusters 10-25(61) cm long, straw-colored to dark purplish-red; branching usually alternate to 4 or 5 orders; axis 8-12 mm broad, frequently eroded, especially basally; monostromatic portions of axis and branches with inconspicuous veins diagonal to midrib; reproduction as for genus.
Common spring annual in C. Calif, saxicolous, low intertidal to subtidal (to 5 m), Alaska to San Luis Obispo Co., Calif. Type locality: Vancouver I., Br. Columbia.
