The INA is a card file maintained by Paul Silva at the Herbarium of the University of California. It contains nearly 200,000 names of algae (in the broad sense). The BPU is a card file containing bibliographic references pertaining to algal taxonomy.

Cards that have been added since 1988 have been printed from a database. As a preliminary step towards entering the remaining cards (pre-1988) in a database, and to provide archival protection, the cards have been scanned as digital images. These digital images can be used in conjunction with indexes approximately like the cards can be used, but they are available at more than one site.

N.B.: The card images date from 1998. New images are not made. Changes affecting names on these cards are to be found in a separate database along with all post-1988 entries. Please check that database (http://ucjeps.berkeley.edu/INA.html) for updates to the images.
