Life History:

alternation of heteromorphic phases, with the leafy sporophyte producing quadriflagellate zoospores and the microscopic discoid bisexual gametophytes producing biflagellate isogametes (Golden and Cole 1986; Tatewaki 1969; Yamada and Tatewaki 1965); in Europe, sporophyte recycling by means of quadriflagellate zoospores, sexual reproduction absent (Bliding 1969, p. 612)
