Origanum ×majoricum Cambess.
Habit: Plant from rhizomes. Stem: 1--6 dm; short-hairy. Leaf: petiole 1--3 mm; blade 0.5--1.2 cm, entire, glabrous to puberulent, minutely gland-dotted; margin ciliate. Inflorescence: generally peduncled, collectively panicle-like; bracts 4--6 mm, pale green. Flower: calyx 2.5--3.5 mm, sparsely puberulent, gland-dotted; corolla 2-lipped for +- 1/3, 5--6 mm, white; stamens poorly developed or to 2.5 mm.
Ecology: Disturbed areas; Elevation: < 600 m. Bioregional Distribution: n SNF, ScV; Distribution Outside California: native to Balearic Islands, Spain, Portugal. Flowering Time: +- summer Note: Hybrid between Origanum vulgare, Origanum majorana L.; plants sterile or fertile, cultivated, spreading from rhizomes or seeds.
