Acmispon heermannii (Durand & Hilg.) Brouillet
Habit: Perennial herb (or flowering 1st year, appearing annual), hairs spreading or obliquely directed, often straight, stiff, < 0.5 mm, especially near stem tip. Stem: prostrate, often mat-forming, 3--10 dm. Leaf: irregularly subpalmate; stipules gland-like; leaflets 4--6, 4--16 mm, ovate to obovate, green, gray, or silver; axis sometimes flat, +- blade-like. Inflorescence: 3--8-flowered, peduncle generally 1--5 mm, bracted. Flower: calyx 2--4 mm, lobes < tube, generally long-shaggy-hairy; corolla yellow to +- red, dark-tipped, wings >= other petals. Fruit: indehiscent, ascending to divergent, exserted, +- 5 mm, narrowly oblong, generally curved, generally flat, tapered to long, beak 2--3 mm, curved. Seed: 1--2.
