Monardella sinuata Elvin & A.C. Sanders
Habit: Annual, simple or generally branched proximal to middle; hairs 0 to sparse. Stem: erect, 8--65 cm, slender to stout, straw-colored to dark red-brown. Leaf: in axillary clusters, short-petioled to decurrent, 10--55 mm, (3)4--10 mm wide, linear to oblanceolate, +- fleshy, subglabrous to sparsely hairy, margin weakly to strongly wavy. Inflorescence: flower cluster 10--35 mm wide; bracts 7--16 mm, 3--12 mm wide, elliptic to ovate, obtuse to acute, scarious or green, purple-tinged or not, black-tipped or not, black-veined or not, veins spreading-hairy. Flower: calyx 5--8 mm, dark-tipped or not, hairy, lobes obtuse; corolla 14--20 mm, lavender to purple, upper 2 lobes gland-tipped.
Note: Erroneously treated in Monardella undulata since 1868; type of Monardella undulata is a subshrub or shrub.
