Dysphania multifida (L.) Mosyakin & Clemants
Habit: Plant 8--50 cm. Stem: branches spreading to decumbent, glandular. Leaf: sessile; blade 3--45 mm, oblong to elliptic, dentate or deeply irregularly divided with narrow linear lobes, minutely glandular abaxially. Inflorescence: clusters, < 5 mm diam, in axillary and terminal spikes, 10--25 mm. Flower: calyx urn-shaped, lobes fused +- to tip, tube enclosing fruit, papery, surface netted. Fruit: ovoid, +- 1 mm diam; wall loosely attached to seed. Seed: vertical, dark brown-black, warty, shiny. Chromosomes: 2n=32.
Ecology: Disturbed areas; Elevation: < 1400 m. Bioregional Distribution: NW, c SNF, n ScV, CW, SCo, ChI (San Nicolas, Santa Rosa islands), s WTR; Distribution Outside California: to eastern North America; native to South America. Flowering Time: Jul--Oct
