Salsola damascena Botsch.
Habit: Shrub 60--100+ cm, generally puberulent. Stem: branched +- throughout, branches ascending to erect, not ribbed longitudinally, not red-striped. Leaf: alternate, 3--9 mm, lower oblong, upper ovate, generally puberulent, tip obtuse to acute. Inflorescence: bracts ovate, leaf-like, narrowly wing-margined. Flower: sepals 2--3 mm, wing +- 2 mm. Fruit: 7--11 mm diam including wings; developed wings 5, opaque, veins numerous.
Ecology: Clay soils, flats; Elevation: +- 1000 m. Bioregional Distribution: se SCoRI (Temblor Range); Distribution Outside California: native to Mediterranean, southwestern Asia. Flowering Time: Jun--Oct
