Claytonia washingtoniana (Suksd.) Suksd.
Habit: Annual. Stem: 6--40 cm, spreading to erect. Leaf: basal 4--30 cm, blade 1--5 cm, generally widely diamond-shaped to ovate or deltate, base wedge-shaped to truncate, tip generally acute; cauline 1--4 cm, free or fused < 5 mm on 1 side, widely ovate to +- round, sessile, obtuse. Inflorescence: stalked or not, open, bracted throughout; flowers 5--25, clustered. Flower: sepals 2.5--4 mm; petals 4--5 mm, +- pink [or not]; anthers maturing +- with stigmas. Fruit: 2.5--3 mm. Seed: 1.5--2 mm, elliptic, shiny or dull. Chromosomes: 2n=24.
Ecology: Generally shady moist woodland, streambanks, seeps; Elevation: < 150 m. Bioregional Distribution: NCo; Distribution Outside California: to British Columbia. Flowering Time: Jan--Jun Note: Fertile derivative of Claytonia sibirica × Claytonia perfoliata. Self-pollinated.
