Oenothera stricta Link subsp. stricta
Habit: Annual, biennial, rosetted, minutely strigose; hairs also long, spreading, some glandular. Stem: generally erect, 2.5--10 dm. Leaf: cauline 6--10 cm, very narrowly lance-elliptic, generally slightly wavy, serrate. Inflorescence: flowers in distal axils; buds erect. Flower: hypanthium 20--45 mm; sepals 14--20 mm; petals 15--25 mm, yellow fading red-orange, bases generally with 1 red spot. Fruit: 30--40 mm, 3--4 mm wide, +- cylindric (slightly wider toward tip). Seed: 1.4--1.8 mm, widely elliptic, pitted. Chromosomes: 2n=14.
Ecology: Uncommon. Generally moist, disturbed places; Elevation: generally < 500 m. Bioregional Distribution: SCo; Distribution Outside California: native to Chile. Flowering Time: Apr--Sep Note: Doubtfully in California; permanent translocation heterozygote.
