Erodium malacoides (L.) Aiton
Habit: Annual, biennial. Stem: decumbent to ascending, 1--6 dm, +- puberulent; nodes glandular. Leaf: simple, 4--15 cm; blade generally < petiole, ovate to oblong, cordate, crenate to shallowly lobed, puberulent, veins short-appressed-hairy. Flower: sepals 4--6 mm, tip bristly; petals +- = sepals, pink to purple, base with veins generally darker. Fruit: body 3--5 mm, pits +- round, glandular, generally subtended by 1--2 glandular ridges; style column 2--3 cm. Chromosomes: 2n=20, 40.
Ecology: Open sites, grassland, scrub; Elevation: < 500 m. Bioregional Distribution: n SnJV, SnFrB, SCo; Distribution Outside California: native to southern Europe. Flowering Time: Feb--Jul
